For more half a century paranoid fantasies about flying saucers, little green men and alien invasions were officially indulged by the existence of a department within the Ministry of Defence that investigated UFO sightings.

But after more than 11,000 sightings spawning countless conspiracy theories, the department has been scrapped. The UFO hotline is no more.

In these tough economic times the MoD concluded that investigating UFO sightings can no longer be justified. It was diverting resources an MoD statement said.

surely they could have worked out years ago that it had no defence value

why has it taken them all this time to realise that? sheeeshh, it does make you wonder

This doesn't suprise me, they probably cannot be seen to be squandering money on this. They are probably using other less public channels to investigate. I do not think for one moment they are not interested, I am sure any unknown aircraft infiltraiting UK airspace is a matter of national security. Apparantly in the US, recovered UFOs are reverse engineered by private firms such as Lockheed Martin, GE etc. working in cahoots with above top secret agencies that are very losely connected with the government.

LOL howver Nazi UFO is right the skunk works has long since been assoviated with reverse engineering.. If you read the day after Roswell Corso used private companies to bring the technology into main stream use, and they knew exately whwere it came from!
